Mobile wallets, which were sluggish in their growth in 2017, seem to have made a sharp recovery.

Reporting a significant 14% growth in January against December, prepaid payment instruments (PPIs) or mobile wallets reported 113.6 million transactions against 99 million in the previous month. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) grew 4.2%, having reached 151 million transactions against 145 million last month. Overall, total digital transactions have crossed the 1-billion mark, reaching 1.1 billion for the whole month against just 1 billion in December 2017.
